SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES RESEARCH (SHSR)

Named after its host city, Chiang Mai University (CMU) was founded in January 1964 and is the first university established outside of Bangkok As the first institution of higher education in northern Thailand, it remains a center for academic and occupational knowledge.

 Research Institute for Health Sciences (RIHES) was established in 1967 and formally constituted as part of Chiang Mai University in 1978. RIHES conducts a wide range of research on health issues directly affecting northern Thailand, including topics in clinical infectious diseases, cell and molecular biology, non-communicable diseases, nutrition, and environmental health sciences. RIHES has received research funding from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) since 2007. In 2020, RIHES established the Thailand HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Clinical Trials Unit (THAI CTU) in collaboration with the Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre and the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University.

SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES RESEARCH (SHSR) was established in 2019 as part of the Research Institute for Health Sciences to support graduate studies. We offer an international program at both the master’s and doctoral levels in Health Sciences Research. The program serves the needs of students with a strong undergraduate background and interest in health sciences research who are interested in pursuing further academic studies in the fields  health sciences. Students will be able to choose an area of concentration from one of the following: clinical infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases and the geriatric health, food and nutrition, molecular and cell biology, and environmental health sciences.
